Gameplay and Characters
In MultiVersus, each character has a specific role: Bruiser, Mage, Assassin, or Tank. For example:
– Bruisers like Shaggy from Scooby-Doo are easy to play and good for beginners.
– Mages like The Joker and Assassins like Stripe from Gremlins have more complex moves and require more skill to master.
Characters also have team-focused moves. Wonder Woman can protect her partner with a shield, and Bugs Bunny can dig a tunnel for quick travel. Even characters who aren’t team-focused have interesting ways to fight multiple opponents. For instance, Jason Voorhees can trap a victim and slam them into another player for a double attack.
Exciting Battles
The game shines in both 1v1 and 2v2 battles, especially in competitive settings. Players can tweak their strategies using different Perks:
– Standard Perks can enhance attacks or damage.
– Signature Perks are unique to each character and can change how you play.
For example, The Iron Giant’s Afterburners leaves walls of fire after his attacks. These Perks add depth and let you customize your play style.
Performance and Technical Issues
Most losses in the game are due to skill rather than technical problems. The game’s netcode, which manages online play, is good. Although some matches might have minor slowdowns or graphical glitches, they don’t significantly affect the gameplay.
Missing Features and Lack of Fun Elements
When the full version of MultiVersus was released, some features were removed, like the co-op versus AI mode. This made it harder for new players to practice.Even though new stages like The City of Townsville and Dexter’s Laboratory have been added, the game lacks the chaotic fun found in other games like Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
For instance, Super Smash Bros. has items and transforming stages that make the game more entertaining, especially for casual players. MultiVersus focuses more on the competitive side but misses out on the fun, silly ways to play.
PvE Mode: Rifts
MultiVersus has a PvE (Player vs. Environment) mode called Rifts. This mode adds variety with fun challenges, like:
– Infinite jumps, allowing you to fly around the stage.
– Avoiding falling items themed around characters like the Joker.
There are also activities like shooting galleries and target-breaking challenges. These aren’t always fun but do offer a change from regular battles.
The best part of Rifts is the boss battles. For example

– Battling the Joker in a hot air balloon.
These boss fights are fun and add excitement to the mode. However, the progression system in Rifts can be frustrating. You collect and level up items called Gems, which give you powerful abilities in PvE but can be hard to upgrade without spending money.
Progression System Issues
The progression systems in MultiVersus are often boring and confusing. For example, to get early access to a character, you might need to beat 20 Rift bosses. While the bosses are fun, reaching them requires grinding through different difficulties, gated by the level of your Gems. Upgrading Gems can be slow and might push you to spend real money for faster progress.
Other aspects of the game, like customizing your profile or tracking event rewards, are also complicated and not user-friendly. The game has several types of in-game currencies, which can be confusing
Gleamium: Used for buying characters and cosmetics.
Fighter Currency: Earned by playing and used for certain items.
Perk Currency: For specific categories of items.
Prestige Currency: Used to buy skins and other personalization items.
This complicated economy makes the regular premium battle pass, which offers rewards for playing, seem simple by comparison.
